When referring to injected plastic caps, there is a wide variety of options depending on the intended use. The main types of caps that can be worked are:
Conventional caps
Caps with tamper-evident band
Flip-top caps
Disk-top caps
Snap-cap closures
Mayonnaise/ketchup type condiment closures
Caps for oils or liquid sauces
Spice caps
Caps with handle
Wide mouth caps
Snap-on caps for buckets or dippers
Other lids
These caps can be manufactured with Hot Runner or Cold Runner molds (hot or cold runner), and can incorporate ejection system for launching or unscrewing. The ejection by unscrewing avoids damaging the internal thread and allows the design of a more resistant thread. The use of one system or the other depends largely on the design of the cap to be produced.
In addition, if the cap incorporates a safety band, this can be produced by injection or cut. In the case of the cut band, the useful life of the mold is longer than in the case of the injected band, but it requires the cutter, an additional equipment to be considered.
In the case of flip-top molds, the closing system can be incorporated directly into the mold prior to ejection. This avoids having to close the caps manually.
At PET Packaging Network we can offer molds and injection systems for the manufacture of all types of closures. If a closure incorporating an inner liner is required, we can also provide the equipment to cut and apply the liners to the closures.
If an injection molding operation is not available, or the consumption volumes do not justify the investment, the manufacture of a mold and subsequent supply of caps directly from Asia can be considered.
